Shannon Sharpe, the fiery NFL Hall of Famer turned ESPN host, has officially been cut loose by ESPN—just weeks after quietly settling a massive $50 million sexual assault lawsuit filed by a Jane Doe accuser. The suit accused him of rape and abuse during a tumultuous relationship, but Sharpe vehemently denied everything, calling the claims “false and disruptive” and a calculated “shakedown.” ESPN didn’t provide a public statement but opted not to bring him back to First Take despite Sharpe’s earlier intent to return for the 2025 NFL preseason  .

The case was dismissed with prejudice on July 18, sealing the deal—and ensuring the accuser cannot refile. No criminal charges were filed, and the settlement details remain under wraps  . Sharpe, who joined ESPN in September 2023 and scored multiple contract extensions, now vows to keep his brand alive via his podcasts Club Shay Shay and Nightcap, both still rolling on The Volume network (though that deal wraps up in August)  .

Adding fuel to the fire, rapper Meek Mill chimed in sharp and unapologetic: “Y’all too old to be getting fired fr…” hitting Sharpe square in the feels over the dismissal  .

On his Nightcap podcast, Sharpe confessed his biggest regret: timing. He’d asked ESPN to delay the reveal until after his brother Sterling’s Hall of Fame induction, wanting the spotlight on family, not scandal—but ESPN refused. He shared his disappointment while offering heartfelt apology to his brother and gratitude to the network for the platform—accepting ESPN’s decision with peace ✌️  .
