When you think of luxury dining inside a high-end hotel, you probably picture spotless kitchens, fancy plates, and five-star service… not flies buzzing around and wastewater on the floor. Well apparently, that’s exactly what inspectors say they found at Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago. 😬

According to inspection records obtained by media outlets, the hotel’s main kitchen, room service operation, and the rooftop restaurant Terrace 16 were hit with several violations during a Chicago Department of Public Health inspection in December 2025.

And baby… the list of issues had people clutching their stomachs. 🤢

Health inspectors reportedly found more than 10 small flies hanging out around the bar area, with even more buzzing around the dishwashing area. As if that wasn’t enough, the dishwasher responsible for cleaning plates and utensils wasn’t sanitizing properly.

But wait… it gets messier.

Inspectors also discovered a prep-area sink draining wastewater straight onto the kitchen floor, which is about as unsanitary as it sounds. On top of that, some perishable foods were being stored at temperatures between 46 and 53 degrees, which is warmer than the recommended safety range for cold foods.

And the violations didn’t stop there. Reports say inspectors also spotted:

  • A cracked ice machine lid

  • Debris and gunk building up in prep coolers

  • Dirt accumulating under sinks and kitchen areas

  • Shellfish missing sell-by labels

Basically… the kitchen had more issues than a reality TV reunion episode. 😅

Now to be fair, the hotel did get a follow-up inspection about a week later and passed, suggesting the problems were addressed quickly. But still — when folks hear about flies in the bar area and wastewater on the floor, it’s enough to make anyone think twice before ordering appetizers.

And according to inspection records, this isn’t the first time the property has dealt with health violations since opening back in 2009.

So the question is…

Are these just temporary slip-ups… or a pattern of messy kitchens hiding behind luxury menus? 👀

One thing’s for sure: when it comes to food safety, nobody wants a side of flies with their meal.
